Accountants are supposed to be good with money; well, at least with other people’s money. Otherwise, who would hire another to manage his/her money if the steward was known to be incompetent?
One would expect a person who manages other people’s money well to be great with his/her own. I am not sure that is (always) the case. One of my interests is in exploring personal finance issues. Where I can, I will to share my own experience, and extend it to other accountants, or what I think applies to accountants. Again, as stated elsewhere on this blog, this is not advice to accountants or anybody. It is just my musings. Enjoy it at your own risk!
I intend to write something about personal finance on Fridays. It is not advice.
The topics I intend to cover include:
1 – Why do accountants work long hours? Is it worth it? Does It Make Money-Sense?(DIMMS? – I have coined this “word”. It is a simple but effective way to evaluate financial decisions. May be I should find an intellectual propery lawyer!)
2 – Why are accountants usually very well dressed, drive nice cars, own big houses, and live a relatively expensive life? DIMMS?
3 – Why take the CPA exam? DIMMS?
4 – Are expenses related to the CPA exam investments? If so, how does one handle or account for that investment?
5 – Should Accountants run their home (financially) as a business? Why or why not?
6 – How much do Accountants make per hour? Not the nominal rate, but the effective rate? (Your Money or Your Life) DIMMS?
7 – Eating out to win clients or “impress” your boss, DIMMS?
8 – Working your tail off to make partner, and then spending all the money that comes in with the promotion, DIMMS?
9 – Working (as an employee) all your life, DIMMS?
10 – Are there viable alternatives to the traditional or normal way of living and working and spending and retiring at 60, 65, or whatever figure is accepted? Should I take an alternative path? DIMMS?
11 – Is DIMMS everything?
12 – What is my relationship with Money?
Those are some things I would like to write about here. I will add more as I learn and muse more! If you have thoughts and ideas or you would like to write something as a guest post, feel free to contact me via the contact page.
