WELCOME to cpastories!

[Quick note:
- there is a table of contents (top right of home page)
- there is a search button, (top right of home page), so you can use that to see if a topic of your interest has been covered. [Try searching "study tip" - with the quotation marks, if you are looking for study tips.] There is a also a “tag cloud” at the botton right, and you may find a topic of your interest. You may contact via the contact page if there is something you would like to be covered. I can’t promise anything, but I will do my best to look into it! Thanks!]

About me:-

I am a CPA: I decided to take the CPA exams in Jan 2009. My first exam was in Apr 2009; I passed FAR, BEC, and AUD, first time. I failed REG, 74, and had to retake it on 11/29/09. I found out I passed it yesterday, 12/19/09. I took the Ethics Exam today, 12/20/09, and I got 95, so I am done with the CPA exams.

Other academic stuff: MBA, MSA.

Non-academic stuff: I have a beautiful girlfriend, MKX. I love her. I love my family. I love (the game of) Chess & blogging. I like learning, and finding solutions to problems. I enjoy helping people.

Avatar: The picture of the lioness on a ‘hill’ is from Mara Predator Project. I wrote them requesting permission to use their pictures, and they okayed. So, this is my way of saying thanks. They are doing a wonderful job there. If you like wild game, you may enjoy their website.

This blog is work in progress.

Two main intentions or goals for this blog, [I.] and [II.], below:

[I.] The initial intention is to provide a platform where people freely share their CPA exam stories, notes, thoughts, and reflections on how best to approach and PASS the CPA exam.

I think once you are approved to take the exam, the process can be broken into four steps.

1. Get the Best CPA Review Course.

2. Establish Good Study Habits.

3. Know and Practice Good Exam-taking Technique

4. Take and Pass the Exam.

One can clearly see that almost all the factors have to deal with the CPA exam candidate and less with the content. There is the material to be studied at the beginning, there is an an exam to be taken at the end. So, we are looking at 3-5 days taken up by buying and getting the review material, and several hours of exam taking. In between those two (i.e. review material and exam, or shipping time and exam time) there are some critical things that need to be done in order to pass the exam. All of it depends on the individual. That is why the focus of this blog will be on the person. That is why I have this page: Be Your Best.

As people share their stories, tips, thoughts and reflections, we will see whether the 4 steps are too few or too many. Obviously, people are different, and one tip or all tips may not work for everybody. Each person will choose what he or she thinks is best for him or her.

[II.] In addition, I intend to write about things that affect the accountant, mainly focusing on career, money and life [assuming that the cpa exam, career, and money are NOT life!] Again, your participation to share your story, knowledge, suggestions and insights is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

While we are at it, let us take care of some business:

DO NOT DISCLOSE CPA EXAM NATURE OR CONTENT! You may be liable to civil and criminal prosecution in addition to losing your scores, license, etc. You should know that by now! If you don’t, you can read the following:

http://www.ilga.gov/commission/jcar/admincode/023/023014000001150R.html

What is the point of sharing the stories? Well, I think that sometimes people want to share a story, but they do not have a platform for sharing it. At other times, people have questions and they have no platform to ask the questions and hopefully get an answer. At other times, people do not have the courage to ask questions, but they can read other people’s stories and hopefully find positive answers from what they read.
